The Devil as Your Card of the Day

A day to notice what holds you, and how loosely the chains may actually sit.

The Devil tarot card, Rider–Waite–Smith

The Devil as your card of the day

Upright as your card of the day, The Devil asks you to notice what has a hold on you. A horned figure crouches on a dark pedestal, and two chained figures stand below, though each loop of chain sits wide enough to slip over a head. Today this might be a habit you reach for without thinking, a craving, a screen you cannot put down, or a pattern in a relationship that feels fixed. Notice the chain, and notice that it may be looser than it looks.

Three things to notice today

  • A habit you reach for before you have even decided
  • Who or what you hand your attention to by default
  • One small moment where you choose differently than usual

The Devil reversed as your card of the day

Reversed, The Devil can mark a loosening: a first honest glance at the chain, a moment of choosing differently. It can also turn inward as shame about the very thing you are trying to see clearly. Today, notice any small act of freedom, and be gentler with yourself than the old pattern usually allows.
