The Sun as Feelings
What it means as feelings
As feelings, The Sun upright is open, uncomplicated warmth and plain happiness; reversed, it is a gladness dimmed by doubt, tiredness, or waiting for a catch.
The Sun upright as feelings
Upright, The Sun names one of the clearest feelings in the deck: plain warmth, easy affection, and happiness that does not need to hide. Someone feeling this way is usually not hard to read. They might smile when they see you, invite you along without overthinking it, tell friends about you, and seem relaxed and like themselves in your company. There is often playfulness here, and generosity, and very little game-playing. On the card, a child rides a white horse with no saddle or reins, arms flung open, while sunflowers lean over a garden wall toward a huge, calm sun. That openness, nothing held back and nothing to decode, is the heart of it.
The Sun reversed as feelings
Reversed, The Sun suggests the warmth is there but filtered. Someone may genuinely enjoy you yet hold back, unsure whether it can last, or too tired, stressed, or self-critical to show it freely. This can look like enthusiasm that cools before it is fully expressed, compliments brushed aside, or good moments followed quickly by worry about what might go wrong. Sometimes it is simply a delay, a cloud passing over a bright day. Other times it is an old habit of bracing for the catch. Either way, the gladness is not absent. It is being rationed, and what dims it may have more to do with their own weather than with you.
When the feelings are someone else's
Drawing The Sun about someone's feelings is lovely, though worth holding lightly: a card cannot see inside another person. It names a feeling to look for in what they actually do. Warmth like this is usually visible. Do they seem glad when you arrive? Do they include you in plans and in their wider life, not only in private? Is it easy to laugh together? If those things are present, the card matches what you see. If they are not, it may reflect your own hope more than their heart.
The Sun as your own feelings
As a mirror, The Sun may be pointing at a gladness in you, perhaps one you have not let yourself fully enjoy. Maybe something is going well and you keep waiting for it to turn. Maybe you feel more like yourself with someone than you have in a while. The card suggests that joy does not have to be earned twice or defended. It can simply be felt, in daylight, as it is.
The question underneath
Where are you holding back from enjoying something that is already good?
A card can only point at a feeling. To sit with one of your own, draw from a real shuffled deck in Claude and talk it through, free.
Asking something plainer? The Sun yes or no.
