Temperance as Feelings
What it means as feelings
As feelings, Temperance upright is a patient, even affection that adjusts as it goes; reversed, it is feeling out of proportion, too much of one thing and too little of another.
Temperance upright as feelings
Upright, Temperance describes a feeling that is calm without being cool. It is the kind of care that does not rush, that listens before answering, that would rather get the balance right than make a grand gesture. In someone's behavior it might look like steady replies at a sensible pace, a willingness to compromise on small things, and a habit of asking how you are before pressing their own point. The angel on the card pours water between two cups so smoothly the stream seems to bend against gravity. That is the texture here: attention to the mix, a little at a time, until both sides feel held.
Temperance reversed as feelings
Reversed, Temperance suggests the blend has tipped. One feeling has taken over the cup, whether that is longing, irritation, worry, or the need to be reassured. It can show as hot and cold contact, long silences followed by a flood of messages, or conversations where one person gives far more than the other. Sometimes the imbalance is impatience: wanting the relationship settled now rather than letting it find its own measure. Nothing is broken in this picture. The ingredients are all still there. They have simply drifted out of ratio, and the steadiness that would bring them back has been set aside for a while.
When the feelings are someone else's
When Temperance comes up as an answer to how someone feels, it describes a quality worth checking, not a verdict. A card cannot read another mind. What you can look for is consistency: does this person show up in roughly the same way week to week, without big swings? Do they meet you partway when you disagree, rather than giving in or digging in? A measured, patient care tends to reveal itself slowly, in small adjustments. If what you see is the opposite, flare-ups and fades, the reversed reading may be the more useful mirror.
Temperance as your own feelings
As a mirror, Temperance may be pointing at your own sense of balance. Perhaps you are learning to care without overflowing, or to be honest without being sharp. Or perhaps one feeling has been taking up more of your days than you would choose, and you are starting to notice the cost. The card does not ask you to feel less. It asks you to pour more slowly, and to taste what you are mixing before deciding it is wrong.
The question underneath
Which feeling has been taking more than its share of you lately?
A card can only point at a feeling. To sit with one of your own, draw from a real shuffled deck in Claude and talk it through, free.
Asking something plainer? Temperance yes or no.
